We focus on the third phase in history's global industrial revolution which is now the computing and telecommunication era. The business world is littered with business failures where business failed to see change or saw it and didn't act. What are you doing with the tight labour market and potential wave of resignations as employees choose remote working conditions or better remuneration packages .If you look at the quality of life in the past and the safe trajectory it possessed, you can see changes are needed going forward. So we need new ideas and engaging employees in new ways of thinking. We re think where we are now and where we are going. Navigating business in the future depends on our ability to face waves of disruption that is coming at us.
We can start with assessing employees attributes including thinking capabilities, emotion is the workforce, engagement and motivation through changed learning. Finding creativity in the work force involves reducing boundaries around company policies and procedures. Allow changed management procedures. This is achieved by the power base in the business working bottom up rather than having power structure coming from the top down. We expect employees to learn new habits and skills and know they are supported with change business power structure.
Since Covid 19, I see the need to review business practices and look for solutions in the digital world. After lockdown, most businesses will go through a start up phase and will seek innovation, sustainability and finally achieve value adding. Innovation is about identifying problems and coming up with solutions. I see that senior management of businesses will let go of some management responsibilities to allow employees to be motivated, engaged and bring out creativity. I have (Chart 1 Improving our Mental Health through Creativity) which I have developed as an employer and achieved success with employees gaining confidence, creating a vision and letting them express themselves.
The skill set for employees has changed in the digital economy . It is about re skilling ( or upskilling employees) to meet the technical and customer service requirements. Digital literacy is required at all levels of employment . We got to avoid poor leadership traits such as poor communication skills and having a void in emotional intelligence. So going forward, we will look at taking the emotion out of the workforce , look at the powers of perception,, thinking skills of employees and engagement and motivation . The ultimate goal is working towards retention strategy of employees. It is not a training exercise but creating pathways for employees to have options. You should want your business to be the best employment environment where employees have an awesome time.
